stoney lake cottage
Stoney Lake, Ontario, 2015 -
Negotiating the steep topography of the site, this holiday home consists of two volumes stacked on eachother. The upper bar contains living spaces and opens up towards the lake. The lower bar which nestles into the landscape houses bedrooms.
The factory-inspired roof admits north light without heat gain while supporting south-facing solar panels. The house generates its own power for everything from the electric-radiant heated concrete floors to the induction stove. A covered walkway shades the main wall of glass from summer sun but allows the lower winter sun to pour in and passively heat the dark-dyed concrete floor.
