INFLATABLE CULTURE

Installed at Power Ball at the Power Plant Contemporary Art Gallery, Toronto, Canada, 2016

56 Inflated PVC toys

3 x 4 x 3m

Both a playful installation and a critical statement, 'Inflatable Culture' is composed entirely of the paraphernalia of beach experiences, referencing childhood memories, as well as the more general notions of play, leisure and relaxation. As an aggregation of singular objects, it refers to the hoarding tendencies characteristic of our disposable culture of abundance. The installation is meant to be enjoyed as it scatters over the course of its temporary existence.
